Step 3. Antivirus Software
The University offers Sophos as a FREE anti-virus software package for University of Rochester students.

Note: Many new computers often ship with 30-day trial versions of anti-virus software. We highly suggest purchasing a full anti-virus package if you do not wish to use TrendMicro OfficeScan.

Step 4. Update Your Software
If you are purchasing a new computer or bringing an existing one, update your system software!

Step 5. Scan
Below is a list of online virus and security scanners. If able, scan your computer a few days before arriving on campus. This will catch malware and give you time to correct the problem BEFORE you arrive on campus.
1. Symantec Security Check
2. TreadMicro Housecall
3. McAfee Stringer (stand-alone)

Note: Passing computer malware scans does not equate to immunity from future infections. Periodically running virus scans on your computer to ensure a health computer.
